Halloween 2014 - First New Prop Part 3

It hit me that it's not my style to be so secretive and teasing with my prop builds. I was at first because it was a gravestone making contest, but since I'm out of the competition (missed deadline), who cares right?

Mine is based on this really old idea I sketched and posted about years ago ( old post here ).

This is where the build is at right now.

How I created it this far will be in future posts. Right now I'm working on the tendril arm branches. Which I'm having fun creating, inspired by the work of Pumpkinrot and the late John Wolfe of Seasons of Shadows.

Nowhere near done yet, I'm only finding time to work on for an hour or so every 3 or 4 days. In the meantime, I'll retro-post the "making of" so far over the next week or so.

  2. Ye gads, no comments on this yet?!?! Lack of comments must be due to ScareLA prep and wind-down, because this is definitely cool and tombstone contest prize-worthy. I'll be interested in reading how you got all that great texture on the stone. I gotta start making some hanging loops with my glue gun; that plus the drips makes it look all swamp-mossy. I really like it. (Saw you near the food trucks at ScareLA but gave myself a restraining order and didn't even sneak a photo. Progress!)

    1. NO WAY! You should of said "Hi"! One of the best parts od Scare LA is meeting folks face to face I only know via the internet.

    2. But we did meet last year, so all the more reason you should of said hello

  5. Looking good. What is that brown slimy looking substance you are putting on his twigs arms?

    1. It's a combo of real twigs, hot glue, and some blobs of spray foam. The brown is the base coat of paint. I'll post more about later, the arms are a work in progress, not really happy with yet.

  6. Dude ... you are awesome. I've been so busy this year, I've hardly done anything for Halloween ... and here's you, with your crazy schedule, doing top-notch work like this. I am ashamed, and will pick up my game immediately. Thanks for being a great inspiration!

    can i steal your idea?

  7. Awesome work! I am curious how sturdy it is with such a thin spot in the mouth area. Do you think it would hold up to wind? Our graveyard is all outside and I'm thinking about borrowing this idea...I love the candles in the eyes!
