Creative Inspiration: H.R. Giger

Just discovered this fantastic mini documentary from 1979 about artist H.R. Giger's production design for the original ALIEN. It's narrated by Giger himself and thoroughly follows the creation of his now iconic works for the film. The behind the scenes footage is amazing - from first sketches to the sets being torn down in the studio.

In three parts.

  1. I find it difficult to top the original ALIEN film in sci-fi horror. That movie led me to his artwork which I'm still fascinated by today. Thanks for sharing the videos!

    1. Yeah for me too, the original ALIEN not only is in my top ten of favorite SCI-FI, but lead me to discover Giger and also Ron Cobb, another amazing artist.

  2. I was just watching this the other day. So cool. Giger sounds like a character. I wish more "making of"s would be narrated by the creator.

    1. I agree that there should more personal POV docs like this one.
He is a character. I love how hands on he was in the creations. But knowing crew guys the way I do, I bet some were anxious to just get the work done and found him in their way.
