Pumpkin Watch Day 18 - Zombie Seeds

A few days ago, more than two weeks since I planted them, the pumpkin seeds had yet to sprout. I looked at the packet to double check the germination time when I discovered something awful - they were dated 11/09!

That explained it, they were dried up and dead. I should of known better than to use seeds found on a shelf in my garage hoard. I knew they were old, but did not think THAT old.

I gave up on them and decided to try again after picking up fresh seeds later this weekend.

But, just this morning, I've discovered they're actually LIVING DEAD SEEDS!

  1. Wu-hoo! Pumpkin action! We started 'Baby Boo' pumpkins... our first attempt ever so we'll see how it goes (3/12 of those have sprouted so far). I did plant a few 'ancient' Canary Creeper seeds from our neighbour and 2/6 of those sprouted... always a bonus! :)

  2. Seeds are amazing things. In the right conditions they can last a long time. When they start craving the brains of other plants, that's when you need to start worrying.

    1. I did some research and learned most seeds will last many, many years as long as they are stored in a dark, cool and dry place.

And interestingly, the same goes for zombie storage.

    1. Maybe, but the green thumb I have seems to be very moody, and decides when IT wants to work from year to year.

Nevermind, I forgot, my psychiatrist said I shouldn't recall the horror, not ever.
