I'm pretty content with this year's display. The few new props worked out great and I was able to improve on some past favorites. Sure, there's a long list of stuff I'd change, things I hoped to do and details I never had time to add... but if turned out exactly as I see it in my head, I wouldn't have any creative fuel for next October.

I love your Art Installation! You have a wonderful contrast of humor and horror coupled by the usage of cartoon and realistic elements making for a symphony of irony to keep the public off guard.
ReplyDeleteTried to give you an art-critic's perspective for your art installation rather than KEWL! MAN U ROCK!
Which you do.
gorgeous...really enjoyed looking at these! simply fantastic props.
ReplyDeleteLove your yard, probably better seeing it in person no doubt!
ReplyDeleteFantastic and inspiring, Dave. I have a new standard to aim for! Cheers.
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful! And even better in person!
ReplyDeleteDave,
ReplyDeleteYou always give me something to improve on. Our display is nothing compared to yours but I'll bet we get more kids. Check us out at my-life-as-a-house.blogspot.com.

KEWL! MAN U ROCK! (with apologies to you and the more articulate Mr. Macabre who tried so hard not to say it.)
ReplyDeleteWOW.... what a treat to live on your street! Do they have to walk under the guillotine to get to the door? Brilliant! So much work, but so cool.
ReplyDeleteYou made an amazing haunt!! Great job!!! Really love your props, the humour behind it and the cartoonish style to it:) The witch that has crashed in the wall, such a good idea:D And not to mention the big pumpkin with the lamps hanging from it's arms... Mmmmm and the skeleton with the top hat and the lamp.. I think their all a favourite. Can imagine the kids go wild when they see it.. And the grown ups too;) It's an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteAmazing work! Well done! Wow! :)
ReplyDeleteOk, Dave, I've been reading your blog and looking at your cool creations for a few years now. I haven't seen anyone else comment about this, so I am just going to ask: Have you ever noticed that your zombie and skeleton faces/expressions look EXACTLY like the aliens in the 'Aliens Attack' film? Did you work on the design team for that film?! I swear I can't look at your photos without hearing 'ACK!ACK!ACK!' in my head.... ;0)
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the nice comments everyone.
ReplyDeleteDeb, this actually just came up on another post as well. They do have a "Mars Attacks" alien look and now a concept I might play around with down the line.
This post is so cool! I love Halloween decorations. My sister and I always loved to decorate our parents house while we were growing up, and now that we have moved out and have families of our own, we love to exchange ideas, and decorate our own homes! Last year, I made my yard look like a cemetery. I made fake headstones out of styrofoam, painted them black, and then painted white lettering on them to make it seem like people were actually buried in our yard! I loved it! Halloween is just too much fun!
